Vanilla Chai Protein Smoothie
I'm sharing this simple recipe for a few reasons today. I finally found the most amazing plant based protein powder and I HAD to share it with everyone struggling to find the perfect one.
This is not a sponsored post in any way. I have had a hard time over the last eighteen months in my search for one that checks all the boxes and I wanted to share my excitement with you all.
Typically, plant based protein powders (usually made from brown rice, pea protein, and/or hemp-all naturally gluten free) have a chalky consistency. You do get a little more used to it but it still leaves a lot to be desired. Especially, if you are using it to mask already unpleasant flavors like greens. Most of them also have an overly sweetened or artificially sweet taste to them. BUT this new one I found has NONE of these complaints. It produces a smooth and creamy consistency, it is the perfect amount of sweet, it does not produce any bloat, it's easily obtainable and the best part, it's actually fermented proteins. So what does that mean and why is it so good for you? Because fermented foods feed your good gut bacteria (PREbiotics) they are wonderful for your microbiome and even better than probiotics.
Who doesn't love Chai spice, but why do the lattes get to have all the fun? By making your own spice mix you can add it to beverages, baked goods, and smoothies. It gives recipes another dimension of flavor that is just divine, in my opinion.
6 teaspoons ground ginger
8 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons ground cloves
2 teaspoons ground cardamom
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
1. Combine all ingredients and store in a small, air tight, container.
Okay, so let's finally get to the best part of this post, isn't she a beauty? Before becoming plant based I was a big milkshake lover. One of my favorite memories growing up is getting a shake with my Dad, next door to the Orthodontist office after a tightening appointment. This smoothie is like a grown up milkshake. It's one of the best parts of my morning routine.
Vanilla Chai Protein Smoothie:
8 ounces non-dairy milk
1 frozen banana
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/2-1 heaping teaspoon chai mix (depending on taste, I use a full teaspoon)
1. Add all ingredients to blender cup and blend until fully combined.
*Using a frozen banana is optional. You can use a fresh one and I do when I'm out of frozen. It just won't have the beautiful icy, milk-shake, consistency and is more like a smoothie (still delicious).
